American found dead, arrest made at Ballyfin Demesne Hotel in Ireland

An American citizen has been found dead in an Irish luxury hotel and another American citizen is under arrest, according to Irish police.

The Irish National Police and Security Service, the Garda Siochanatold USA TODAY that the deceased American citizen was a man in his 60s. He was found unconscious on a bathroom floor at the Ballyfin Demesne Hotel in County Laois on Tuesday evening and was later pronounced dead.

The bathroom where the American man was discovered is located in a leisure area of the luxury hotel, about 65 miles southwest of Dublin.

ABC News reported that the two men had been traveling together and Irish authorities are not looking for any further suspects in the case.

Another American has been arrested

Irish authorities arrested a US citizen in his 30s at the same hotel in connection with the death. The American was being held at a Garda station in the eastern region of Ireland, according to a police statement.

The incident was investigated and an officer was assigned to assist the deceased’s family, authorities said.
