What’s old is new for the Jamestown Community College swimming and diving teams, as the women’s team won its second consecutive Western New York Athletic Conference meet of the year at home pool Wednesday, while the men once again finished in second place.

The women’s race quickly increased, with Sophia Gervasio winning the 1,000 meter freestyle by more than 14 seconds and teammate Ella Fosberg coming third.

The women continued to claim the podium places in the 200m freestyle, where Emily Swan came second, less than a second off the leading pace; Desiree Putt came third; and Addison Lawson placed fourth.

This was followed by the 50 meter freestyle. Jalyn Linton missed first place by less than two-tenths of a second. Ashlynn Swan placed fifth.

When we switched to the individual medleys, it was all Jayhawks, with Anna Jones taking first and Haleigha Hardy taking second.

In diving, Ashlynn Swan showed why she finished fourth in the country a year ago, winning the 1 meter by more than 60 points.

The 100m butterfly saw a second and third finish from Jamestown CC’s Linton and Jones.

The 100 freestyle was another good event for the Jayhawks; Emily Swan won by more than four seconds, while Gervasio finished third.

Jamestown CC had a great performance in the 100m backstroke, with Putt winning by 16 seconds, ahead of teammate Fosberg in second place.

The 500-meter freestyle was another one-two punch for the Jayhawks, with Lawson taking the crown and Gervasio second.

The 100m individual medley placed Jamestown CC in second, third and fourth places, with Emily Swan, Jones and Putt doing the hard work.

Hardy and Fosberg finished second and fourth in the 100-meter breaststroke.

Finally, the 400-yard freestyle relay saw the Jayhawks take home first with the team of Ashlynn Swan, Lawson, Hardy and Linton. The quartet had an almost 40 second lead over second place.

On the men’s side, it was another win in the 1,000m freestyle, with Owen Slojkowski taking first place.

In the 200-yard freestyle, Zach Johnson was just edged out for first place. Teammates Carl Alexander and Noah Miles took fourth and fifth place, respectively.

In the 50-yard freestyle, Kyle Dean was beaten first by a tenth and Cameron Milewski was fourth.

In diving, Milewski placed second, just behind Monroe.

In the 100-meter butterfly, Miles placed third and Slojkowski fourth, while Milewski continued his strong performance in the 100-meter freestyle with a third-place finish.

The men also excelled in the 100 meter backstroke. Kyle Dean broke a program record with his 57.74 and Randall Hall took third.

In the 500-meter freestyle, Alexander earned another top three finish for Jamestown CC with a third-place finish.

In the 100-meter individual medley, Dean placed third, less than a second off the leader’s pace.

Johnson cruised to a first-place finish in the 100-meter breaststroke, winning by more than a second. Kamp finished fifth.

Jamestown CC placed third in the 400-yard freestyle relay with the team of Johnson, Slojkowski, Hall and Camp.

“Overall, both programs had a successful meet,” Jayhawks head coach Todd Conklin said. “On Saturday we go to Monroe for the last part of our first quarter of the season. It will be a look at where we are. We are looking for continued success for both programs.”

Next up for both teams is the invitational on Saturday at 1pm at Monroe CC.
