King Charles III was reportedly ‘annoyed at being held back’ due to his cancer recovery

Robert Hardman, in his updated book Charles III: New King. New Court. The Inside Story quotes a good friend who describes kingship as ‘a suit that suits him well’.

Jennie Bond, former BBC royal correspondent, echoed the same sentiment OK! Magazine“He enjoys being king and was understandably annoyed when cancer held him back… Charles remains impatient to get on with his duties as monarch and is now back on track.”

Charles ‘found it very difficult to follow his doctor’s advice’

The king’s devotion to duty and his willingness to fully commit to his role are not surprising given his origins; his father, Prince Philip, continued royal duties until the age of 96, while the late queen worked until days before her death.

Charles has long shown a similar resilience, but as Bond noted: “He is a man with a great sense of curiosity and I am sure on his birthday he will be hoping that the visit to Australia and Samoa marked a turning point in his recovery. and that he will indeed keep an almost complete diary of assignments during the coming year.’

“He found it very difficult to follow the advice of his doctors, along with his wife and his friends, to slow down,” she explained.

King Charles uses his platform to raise awareness about cancer

Lightening his workload may indeed become a necessity, now that both Charles and Queen Camilla are in their mid-70s. “You cannot ignore the fact that we now have a fairly older king and queen. Camilla’s recent chest infection is a reminder that neither of them are spring chickens and can’t be expected to go all out in the coming year. Charles will undoubtedly have a lot to think about as he celebrates his 76th birthday,” said Bond.

“He can be a very introspective man and some people were concerned that his cancer diagnosis would make him depressed. But by all accounts he has been positive from the start; he has used his own illness to encourage other men to come forward for tests.”

Charles has used his illness to encourage men to be proactive about their health. “I think he appreciates that suffering from cancer has somehow made him more relatable… and the mountains of letters and cards wishing him well have made him understand that he really does have a place in the hearts from a lot of people,” said the former BBC. royal correspondent quoted.

“I always think of them as a pair of old, comfortable slippers – perfectly content in each other’s company, and quite lost when one of them is absent.”
