Officers on mandatory administrative leave after man shot during standoff in Harrison

HARRISON, Maine (WMTW) – Three Cumberland County deputies are on mandatory administrative leave after shooting and wounding a man Wednesday evening.

Police say the man fired several shots at authorities.

The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office says it responded to a call from a man on Hawk Ridge Road who said he was armed and might harm himself.

The man hung up before identifying himself, but police now say the caller was 57-year-old Arthur Lefebvre.

Once on scene, police said they attempted to communicate with Lefebvre but were unable to do so.

They also say Lefebvre’s family members were in the home and were in danger.

After firing several rounds at the law enforcement officers, Lefebvre came outside to confront them with the firearm. This led to police firing, wounding Lefebvre.

He was flown to Maine Medical Center to be treated for serious injuries, but is expected to survive.

The Public Prosecution Service will investigate the use of deadly force by the three officers. Police say they will be identified later.

The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office will continue to investigate the allegations against Lefebvre.
