Former Walker County volleyball coach pleads guilty to sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl during the tournament

A former volleyball coach has pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting a teenage girl in a bathroom stall during a tournament in Trussville.

Dakoda Bhreann Mauldin, a 34-year-old woman from Walker County, was initially charged in 2020 in which a school employee performs sexual acts with a student under the age of 19.

On Wednesday, Mauldin pleaded guilty to second-degree sexual abuse before Jefferson County Circuit Judge Alaric May.

She received a ten-year suspended sentence with three years’ probation. She is now a registered sex offender for the rest of her life.

Jefferson County Deputy District Attorney Dain Stewart prosecuted the case. Mauldin was represented by attorney Justin Forrester.

Trussville Police investigated the case.

Authorities said at the time of Mauldin’s arrest that a 13-year-old girl reported to them that Mauldin attacked her in the bathroom during a volleyball tournament on September 19, 2020 at Hewitt-Trussville High School.

Mauldin, who was 29 at the time, pushed her into a bathroom stall and kissed her on the mouth, according to the girl. It was also said that she sent pictures of herself to the girl and professed her love for her.

Mauldin worked for a contract coach at Jasper High School at the time, but is no longer associated with the school system.
