Bill Hagerty defends MSNBC Matt Gaetz for AG

Senator Bill Hagerty (R-TN) defended Matt Gaetz as Donald Trump’s nominated for attorney general during a fiery segment on MSNBC Thursday.

The Tennessee lawmaker joined the MSNBC anchor Andrea Mitchell for an interview in which he discussed Trump’s recent decision to tap the controversial conservative firebrand to lead the Justice Department.

Before Gaetz resigned from Congress on Wednesday, he faced one Investigation by the House of Representatives Ethics Committee due to multiple allegations of misconduct related to sex trafficking and drug use.

Hagerty told Mitchell he was more concerned about “the weaponization of the Department of Justice,” while claiming that “the American public has completely lost confidence in the DOJ.”

MITCHELL: But what about his personal best? There are questions about him. He was on the House floor sharing pictures of women and talking about bragging about his sexual exploits, about the medications he was taking, the drugs he was taking. You know, his ethics investigation hasn’t been released yet. It’s been cut off. It was supposed to be voted on tomorrow, but it was canceled due to his resignation. What about all the questions and the accusations against him? His co-conspirator and his friend are serving 11 years in prison for the sex trafficking. I mean, there was plenty to explore there.

HAGERTY: Andrea, you mean you said it yourself. These are accusations. It’s surprising that you are more upset about the allegations than you are about the weaponization of the Justice Department. The American public has completely lost confidence in the DOJ. Think about it. The DOJ sends agents to spy on parents who attend school board meetings. It’s just great. Now that the American public has seen all this, they see that someone like Matt Gaetz is willing to stand up and call it wrong. And President Trump wants to appoint someone who will change all this.
