Man injured after bus crashes into Fitchburg bus terminal

A 65-year-old man was injured Thursday morning after a bus crashed into a bus station in Fitchburg, officials said.

Shortly before 8 a.m., the bus crashed into the Montachusett Regional Transit Authority Intermodal Center, pinning someone underneath the vehicle, Fitchburg Fire Chief Dante Suarez said.

The man “was conscious when he was taken under the bus” and flown to a trauma center, where he was listed in “critical condition,” Suarez said. It is unclear whether the man was inside or outside the building when the accident occurred.

“No other injuries were reported,” Suarez said.

There was one passenger on the bus at the time of the accident. The passenger was not injured, he said.

“The driver was not injured, but he was shaken,” he said.

State police investigated the accident, engineers came to inspect the building and the fire department’s technical rescue team helped remove the bus from the terminal, he said.
