The slumping Aaron Rodgers isn’t going away quietly

Things haven’t gone as planned for Aaron Rodgers and the Jets from New York in 2024, but the quarterback has no plans to abort the mission prematurely.

Despite being a virtual fixture on the injury list, Rodgers has started all 10 games and hasn’t missed any time in his first season back from an Achilles tendon injury. The future Hall-of-Fame field general, who turns 41 next month, suggested the Jets’ struggles won’t keep him from playing beyond this season.

“Not in a negative way,” Rodgers said after Wednesday’s practice as New York prepared to host the Indianapolis foals on November 17.

When asked if he still wants to play in 2025, the four-time NFL MVP sounded willing to dial it back.

“I think so, yes,” said Rodgers, who has one season left under contract.

With the Jets at 3-7 overall and their play-off chances are dwindlingthe prospects are bleak for Gang Green. Meanwhile, Rodgers ranks 26th among 32 starting quarterbacks in yards per pass (6.4).

“I’m definitely not playing as well as I wanted to play,” Rodgers said. “The frustrating thing is when you’re a great competitor you hold yourself to a standard and that’s not unrealistic because I didn’t meet that standard this year.

Despite the Achilles injury and a lack of victoriesRodgers claims to have been in good mental condition lately.

“It’s actually been a really good few years for me, but obviously it’s been frustrating with the football part,” Rodgers said.

Rodgers is under contract until 2025 and he probably doesn’t want to leave on a sour note. Unless team executives dump him, which would result in a huge salary cap hit, it appears the Jets will start a 41-year-old quarterback next season.
