Family holds vigil in memory of Va’s mother killed in domestic violence shooting

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. – The family of a Chesterfield woman killed in a domestic violence incident will hold a vigil Saturday afternoon to remember her life.

25-year-old mother Dominique Fields was shot dead outside her Chesterfield home on November 7.

On Saturday, Dominique’s mother, Michelle Erazo, will hold a vigil outside that same apartment in memory of the young mother of two whose life was tragically cut short.

Erazo says a text alert and a newspaper headline were the reasons she turned to her cell phone on Nov. 7.

“I have her location because I help pay the phone bill, I help her,” Erazo said. “Then I zoomed in on her location and I saw the article about the woman being shot multiple times. I zoomed in to the right and it said South Point Landing. I started shaking.”

She felt like something terrible had happened to her daughter, Dominique.

“As I was getting ready to go downstairs, I heard the knock on the door and it was the police officers and I already knew. They didn’t have to tell me – I already knew it was her.”

Chesterfield police were called to the 5800 block of Nottinghill Drive for a woman shot outside her apartment.

The next day, police confirmed that the U.S. Marshal Task Force had taken the father of Dominique Fields’ two children, Quadry B. Campbell, into custody and charged with murder.

“She was a good person, a good mother. Everyone loved her,” Erazo said. “She had a good heart. She was an angel. She was a mama’s girl. Always attached to me. She never hurt anyone. She was always helpful and she was all about her and her children.”

A vigil in Dominique’s memory will take place outside her apartment at the South Point Landing Apartments on Saturday at 4 p.m. Erazo says attendees can light a candle during the vigil.
