Following the cancellation of the Christmas lights switch on in Shrewsbury last year, a Rotary Santa is looking forward to their return on Wednesday.

Shrewsbury Severn Rotary’s Santa Claus returns to the club’s familiar spot at the foot of Pride Hill for a three-hour period from 5pm to 8pm.

Santa is looking forward to meeting and greeting many enthusiastic young people during the three hours on what will be a first for Shrewsbury – a brand new, state-of-the-art sleigh.

The new design is unlike any sled ever designed and built before. And over the Christmas period it will visit some of the famous streets and supermarkets in Shrewsbury.

Shrewsbury Severn Rotary Club president David Morris said: “We hope the attraction of Santa Claus and our brand new sleigh will attract many families to the start over the three hours.

“We hope the event will help us raise several hundred pounds for local charities.”
