A court in Bogura has sent Saad bin Azizur Rahman to prison, in a case over the murder of his mother Umme Salma, after his three-day remand ended today (November 16).

Dupachaia Cognizance Court Senior Judicial Magistrate Mehedi Hasan issued the order, court inspector Mosaddek Hossain told The Business Standard.

“Nobody has applied for bail on behalf of Saad today,” he added.

Nazmul Islam, the investigating officer in the case, said, “The bail application may not have been possible due to the delay in sending it to the court.”

Earlier on November 11, the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested Saad on charges of murdering his mother. He was later detained for three days.

Meanwhile, the RAB released a statement on November 12, in which the elite force claimed that Salma’s own son Saad had killed her and has confessed to the murder.

Police said yesterday that 50-year-old Salma was murdered by one of her tenants at her house in Bogura’s Dupachachia upazila on November 10, contradicting RAB’s statement.

Police said Mabia Begum, a tenant of Salma’s house, killed her with the help of two of her cohorts.

The three new suspects, who were arrested last Thursday, gave confessional statements at the Dupachaia Cognizance Court over Salma’s murder, Faridpur police spokesperson Additional Superintendent Suman Ranjan Sarker told The Business Standard.

However, RAB today reaffirmed its claim about the son’s involvement in his mother’s murder, saying the information was shared based on his confession after detention.
