China: Eight dead and 17 injured after ‘student carries out stabbing attack’ | World news

At least eight people have been killed and seventeen others have been injured in a stabbing at a Chinese school.

Authorities said in a statement that a 21-year-old student allegedly carried out the attack in Yixing City. Chinas Jiangsu province.

According to the state-owned company Xinhua News AgencyThe attack took place at the Wuxi Vocational Institute of Arts and Technology at around 6.30pm on Saturday (10.30am in Britain).

The newspaper reported that police believe the suspect – identified only by his surname Xu – graduated from the school earlier this year and was angry because he had not received his graduation certificate.

Police say the student – ​​who was also reportedly unhappy with his internship allowance – confessed to the crime.

It comes days later 35 people were killed in the Chinese city of Zhuhai, when a driver deliberately drove a car into people who were exercising in a sports center.

Officers said a “number” of pedestrians were hit in the incident, which took place on the eve of a biennial People’s Liberation Army exhibition in the southern Chinese city.

A 62-year-old man, identified only by his surname Fan, was arrested downtown on Monday.

Police said he was apprehended in the car, which was described as a small all-terrain vehicle, as he attempted to flee.
