Details: The NATO spokesperson emphasized that these attacks targeted critical energy infrastructure in Ukraine.

The Alliance stands with Ukraine and its members will continue to contribute to strengthening Ukraine’s defensive capabilities, the spokesperson said.

NATO also tried to reassure its member states. In Poland, an alliance member state bordering Ukraine, fighter jets were used as a precaution during the attack, which included strikes on the Polish-bordering city of Lviv.

The Alliance has strengthened its air and missile defense systems because of the Russian war. The spokesperson explained that the Alliance would continue to review its commitment to ensure the security of all its members: “We will continue to assess our commitment and ensure the protection of all allied partners.”

Background:

  • In the early hours of November 17, Russian forces launched a combined strike over the Ukrainian energy sector using 210 missiles and drones, of which 144 were intercepted.

  • Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha called the latest large-scale missile attack a disaster answer from war criminal Vladimir Putin to recent phone calls and visits by foreign leaders.
