Police identify 12-year-old killed at party in abandoned home in National City – San Diego Union-Tribune

National City police have identified the 12-year-old boy killed in a to shoot at a party in an abandoned house late Friday night.

Police said Sunday that Elijah Smith was killed in the shooting, which occurred at a building on N Avenue near 8th Street, and left four others injured.

On Friday around 11:50 p.m., several 911 calls came in reporting shots fired at the building. National City police arrived to find more than 100 people at the party – mostly teenagers and young adults – and requested assistance from neighboring police stations to control the crowd and secure the scene.

The shooter or shooters fled by the time police arrived, police said.

Police reiterated Sunday that it appears the shooting resulted from some form of physical altercation between two groups, and that they were still searching for and trying to identify witnesses. The other four victims, all men, all suffered gunshot wounds. They were in stable condition, police said Sunday.
