Student housing model ends the two-hour roadblock

A group of students of the Residential Model School and College returned to campus on Sunday after a two-hour roadblock, demanding the cancellation of digital lottery-based admissions in favor of entrance exams. After their departure, traffic resumed on Mirpur Road in front of the college.

The protest started around 10:15 am when the students broke through the university gate and occupied the street in front of the campus. Teachers arrived on the spot and assured the students that their demands would be forwarded to the relevant authorities. The demonstration ended around 12:45 p.m.

The students argued that the digital lottery system, initially introduced during the COVID-19 pandemic, is no longer relevant. They alleged that the system, which has been in place for several years, deprives deserving students of the opportunity to register with the institution. They demanded a merit-based admission process through entrance examinations, especially for grades 3, 6 and 9, to ensure fair evaluation.

While the students warned that they would not leave the road until their demands were met, they later announced plans to continue their campaign online, calling for the abolition of the lottery system and the restoration of entrance exams.

Attempts to contact the director and other faculty members of Residential Model School and College for comment were unsuccessful as they declined to speak to the media.

Although the students have suspended their protest for the day and returned to class, they have warned of further demonstrations, including human chains and gatherings, if their demands are not met within a reasonable time frame.
