Officers: Williamson man choked person, prevented them from calling 911

According to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office, a Williamson man was arrested following a domestic incident that occurred the evening of November 17.

Deputies charged Christopher P. Ward, 54, with criminal contempt in the first degree, criminal mischief, criminal obstruction of breathing and harassment in the second degree. Authorities allege Ward violated an active protective order from Wayne County Court by subjecting a person to unwanted physical contact and preventing him from calling 911.

The incident occurred in the town of Williamson, where deputies say Ward’s actions escalated into violations of court-ordered protections. He was taken into custody and processed at the Wayne County Jail, where he is being held pending arraignment in CAP court.

Further legal proceedings are expected to address the charges.
