Action is being taken against those involved in the recent harassment incident of Legal Adviser Dr Asif Nazrul in Geneva, Deputy Press Secretary to the Chief Adviser Apurba Jahangir said today (Nov 18).

“The incident is being investigated in Geneva. Legal action is being taken against those involved,” he told a news conference, responding to a question.

The regular press conference was held at the Foreign Service Academy in the capital.

Dr. Asif Nazrul was harassed by some expatriates from Bangladesh during his recent visit to Geneva.

Replying to a question, Deputy Press Secretary to the Chief Adviser Abul Kalam Azad Majumder said that press accreditation cards were issued to party members during the ousted Awami League government regime and they were involved in various activities including lobbying the Secretariat and other government agencies by abusing the cards.

Their tickets were canceled based on several complaints, he said.

He said around 170 journalists have had their cards revoked and those who are eligible and those who believe unfair attitudes have been shown towards them can reapply for the cards.

Azad said their applications will be considered if the government believes there are sufficient grounds to issue them the accreditation cards.

The Chief Advisor’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam attended the press conference.
