Fairfield man charged in Valley Ford murder, victim identified

Adrian Yanez is scheduled to be arraigned in Sonoma County Superior Court on November 25. He is accused of killing a man described in court documents as at least 70 years old.

A Fairfield man armed with a baseball bat did accused of killing a Valley Ford resident during a weekend burglary, Sonoma County authorities said.

Adrian Yanez, 44, was charged Monday with murder and burglary in connection with Saturday afternoon’s slaying on Carroll Road, about ten miles east of Bodega Bay.

The victim, identified in court documents as Michael Molland, was described as at least 70 years old.

According to the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office, Yanez allegedly broke into the home while yelling at two of Molland’s relatives. One family member closed doors and windows, while the other hid.

Authorities say Yanez broke in and killed Molland.

The Sonoma County District Attorney’s Office filed charges Monday and Yanez appeared in court Tuesday. Judge Dana Simonds ordered him held without bail.

Yanez will be arraigned on November 25 and has been assigned a public defender.
