Security guards file report claiming company van robbed in attempted theft of RM200,000

ALOR SETAR: Three security guards filed a false report claiming that their security company’s van was robbed in an attempt to steal RM200,000.

They were subsequently arrested by police on Tuesday (Nov 19) for criminal breach of trust, Sinar Harian reported.

Acting Kota Setar district police chief Superintendent Syed Basri Syed Ali said the three individuals had initially claimed in their report that the company van they were riding in had been robbed and a bag containing RM200,000 had been taken.

He said during the 12pm incident, the security guards were on their way to deliver money to a financial institution after collecting it from a bank in Mergong.

‘Their tactics came to light after police became suspicious of their initial statements, which seemed dubious.

“The police managed to discover their plan and recover the stolen money within two hours,” he said during a press conference at the Kota Setar district police station on Thursday (Nov 21).

He added that the company has also filed a police report after the incident for further action.

“All suspects, local citizens between the ages of 28 and 38, have been remanded in pre-trial detention for three days from November 20.

“Police also seized several items including three mobile phones, company uniforms, the stolen cash, the container in which the money was kept and a motorcycle,” he said.

Supt Syed Basri added that two of the three suspects also tested positive for methamphetamine.

“However, none of them have any previous criminal record,” he said.
