Man dies after assault in Finglas

A man has died following an attack in Finglas, Dublin, in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

BBC News NI understands that Gardaí (Irish police) are treating the incident as a murder.

Shortly before 00:30 GMT, Gardaí and emergency services responded to reports of an attack outside a house on Dunsink Green.

A man in his 60s was treated at the scene and subsequently pronounced dead at Connolly Hospital, Blanchardstown.

Officers attended the scene on Tuesday morning for forensic examination.

In a statement, gardaí said the coroner had been informed and the Garda Technical Bureau and the Office of the State Pathologist had been asked to assist with the investigation.

The statement added that post-mortem examination will be conducted.

Gardaí have appealed for anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who has video footage from the area to contact them.
