The shooting happened around 3:30 a.m. in the 1990 block of Stone Creek Court

According to the sheriff’s office, a total of six teenagers were in the home at the time and no adults were present. They were said to have been drinking and at one point a gun was produced.

Investigators say the gun unintentionally went off a short time later, hitting the 16-year-old in the chest. The sheriff’s office says the 17-year-old brother was the one handling the gun at the time.

Authorities say the teens attempted to administer first aid and called 911. Unfortunately, the boy died on the spot.

It is unclear where they got the firearm.

The boy’s parents were away from home dealing with a personal matter and are unlikely to be charged in their son’s death at this time, authorities say.
