Democrats lost because they are beholden to donors

Prolific Twitch streamer and progressive Hasan Pikker offered a post-mortem election very different from that put forward by the Democratic advisor class.

CNNs Donie O’Sullivan interviewed Piker, whose election night livestream drew 7.5 million viewers when he was vice president Kamala Harris lost to the president-elect Donald Trump.

During the campaign, Trump used several podcasts to reach young male voters. That included The Joe Rogan experiencewhich the Harris campaign refused to do.

“We wanted to do it,” campaign adviser Harris Stephanie Cutter told Pod Save America. “That’s why we had conversations with Joe Rogan’s team, they were great, they wanted us to come, we wanted to come, we tried to get a date to make it work and in the end we just couldn’t find a date. We did go to Houston and she gave a great speech at a great event.”

Rogan ultimately supported Trump.

O’Sullivan asked Piker what Democrats should do differently.

“I think they need to change their policy,” Piker responded. “It’s 100% a policy matter. It’s a boring answer. Although it would be very self-serving for me to say, “I’m Joe Rogan from the left; the Democratic Party should give me millions of dollars,” that’s not going to solve this problem. What will solve this problem is if the Democratic Party actually adopts a real left-wing economic populist message instead of purposefully avoiding it because they are terrified of upsetting their corporate donors.”

Piker added that Trump is better at connecting with insecure male voters than Democrats.

“I think Trump speaks better to men’s insecurities,” he continued. “And I think Trump is talking about the anger that people have, while the other side of the political spectrum is not talking about that anger at all.”
