Police release identity of Toronto baby allegedly killed by mother

Toronto police have revealed the identity of a four-month-old baby who was allegedly murdered by his own mother.

In an update Wednesday, police identified the deceased baby as Azuri Bacchas.

The grim story unfolded last Wednesday when the The child’s father called police around 11:25 a.m. to report his son was missing.

Officers arrived at a Toronto Community Housing building at Roselawn and Marlee avenues where they found the child with serious injuries.

He was rushed to hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

The boy’s mother, 30-year-old Karessa Edwards of Toronto, was initially charged with failure to provide the necessaries of life.

On Monday, investigators upgraded the charge to second-degree murder.
