Timothée Chalamet offered to pay a $500 fine to the host of his lookalike contest.
The 28-year-old actor made headlines in October when he showed up at his own lookalike contest in New York City’s Washington Square Park, but the event ended on a sour note when police tried to break up the contest and arrested four attendees. .
Event organizer Anthony Po was subsequently fined $500 for hosting a public event without a permit, and it has now been revealed that Timothée’s team has offered to cover the costs.
He told People: “The production (cost) is about $4,000, so it’s a legitimate best-case scenario.
‘They have to do something stronger to discourage us.
“They offered to pay for the ticket, which is really funny.”
However, Anthony rejected the kind offer from Timothée’s team and digital invitation app Partiful paid the fine instead.
But Anthony also revealed that Timothée’s people praised him for organizing the event, which went viral.
He said: “They actually said, ‘We loved it. Thank you very much.’
“It was all good and fun.”
However, the organizer failed to meet the ‘Dune’ actor at the event, and the real Timothée did not make the top 10 lookalikes – despite being the real actor.
Anthony said, “I think if he had stayed until the end, I might have given him second place or something.”
The competition was a catalyst for similar lookalike competitions around the world.
Harry Styles lookalikes attended an event in London’s Soho Square last month, and there was a similar event where Paul Mescal lookalikes were spotted in Dublin, Ireland.
