It’s a bird, it’s a plane, it’s… not Henry Cavill!

DC Studios CEO James Gunn released the first photo on Monday of the latest actor to play Clark Kent, David Corenswet.

“Be ready. Superman. 7.11.25,” the director wrote in a caption on social media platform Threads alongside the image of Corenswet, 30, dressed in the iconic Superman costume.

The Warner Bros. film was previously titled “Superman: Legacy,” but Gunn announced in February that he had dropped the second half of the name.

“When I finished the first draft of the script, I called the film ‘Superman: Legacy,'” he wrote. “By the time I locked down the final version, it was clear the title was ‘Superman’.”

Corenswet succeeds Cavill, 41, who played the hero in six films, starting with “Man of Steel” in 2013 and ending with an uncredited appearance in “The Flash” in 2023.

Coincidentally, Cavill’s birthday was on Sunday, May 5.

Superman is, by far, the biggest role to date for Corenswet, who previously appeared in Ryan Murphy’s Netflix series “The Politician” and “Hollywood.”

He will star alongside the ‘Marvelous Mrs.’ star. Maisel” Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane and “The Great” actor Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor.

“Superman,” which hits theaters July 11, 2025, is the first film in the planned overhaul of the DC Universe. It is part of a first group of films called “Chapter One: Gods and Monsters”.
