For Refugio to be able to defend his state title from a year ago, it was going to take some work and execution.

Having Ernest Campbell as a presenter certainly helps some too. With the race still to be decided heading into the final stage, Texas A&M’s entry left no doubt as he took over and ran away from the competition. The team of Chai Whitmire, Jaedyn Lewis, Jason Moore and Campbell won with a time of 42.15.

On the inside lane, Crawford was in contention but sneaked into second thanks to a strong anchor step from Huston Powers.

After finishing fifth last year, Marlin bounced back this season and took the final podium spot with a time of 42.60.

2A Boys 4×200 Relay

It was going to take a lot of effort for Refugio to dethrone defending state champion Mason in the 2A Boys 4×200 meter relay.

Yet with the final result still uncertain before the final stage, Ernest Campbell brought Refugio home for another victory. They won with a time of 1:28.22 over last year’s state champions.

Mason was in contention for another gold medal until the final 50 meters, but the defending state champions held on for second place.

Beckville made up ground in the inside lane with a third-place finish and a time of 1:29.74.

4×400 boys relay 2A

As expected, the 2A Boys Mile Relay was played out with about five teams competing in the final leg.

Refugio completed the relay sweep with a strong anchor from Jason Moore. The team of Mikel Brown, Isaiah Avery, Chai Whitmire and Moore crossed the finish line with a time of 3:21.69.

It was not an easy victory, however. They had to overcome a strong first leg against several other teams.

Sonora earned his place on the podium by finishing second with a strong effort that put him in first position after the first two stages.

Falls City moved from fifth to third place in the final leg to finish on the podium with a time of 3:22.48.
