App State announces change in softball leadership

BOONE, North Carolina – App State parted ways with head softball coach Shelly HoernerAthletic Director Doug Gillin announced Tuesday.

Hoerner completed his seventh season as App State’s head coach this past weekend. She compiled a 161-172 overall record and a 44-100 mark in Sun Belt Conference play.

“I want to thank Shelly for everything she has done for our softball program over the past seven years,” Gillin said. “Our vision for App State Softball is to compete each year for a conference championship and an NCAA regional appearance. We will conduct a national search to find the best leader to realize this vision.”

Highlights of Hoerner’s tenure with the Mountaineers included the program’s first win against a ranked team (against No. 23 Louisiana) in 2023, four straight winning seasons for the first time in program history from 2019-22, and a program record 31. wins in 2019.

App State will immediately launch a national search for the next leader of the softball program.
