CCTV captured a “shocking” moment when a driver deliberately ran over two men.

A BMW driver caught on “shocking” CCTV footage driving into a group of brawlers in the heart of the City of London has been sentenced to seven years in prison.

Two men were injured when they were hit by Bristan William’s car in Leadenhall Street on the evening of July 26 last year.

William had been seen parking his blue BMW on the pavement and heading to the Revolution bar at 10.45pm.

A little over an hour later, he got back into the vehicle after a fight broke out in the street between two groups of men.

He headed towards them, hitting an unknown person, before making a three-point turn and charging towards the group again, all of whom managed to avoid being hit.

He then turned around and headed straight towards two men as they tried to flee.

The first victim was thrown into the air and thrown against the wall of a building.

He suffered a dislocated shoulder, a broken nose and three separate spinal fractures.

The second victim was thrown onto the hood and roof of the car, before being propelled 100 meters down the road.

He suffered a ruptured knee ligament following the vehicle impact.

The car was caught on a traffic camera as William drove home in east London.

It was later traced to Wickford in Essex and linked to the incident through debris recovered from the scene.

Detective Constable Jon Forster, of the City of London Police, said: “It was pure luck that this was not a fatality incident.

“William used his vehicle as a weapon, repeatedly hitting people in the street before seriously injuring his victims.

“He had several opportunities to stop and think about what he was doing, but instead he chose to drive his car into the group.

“The CCTV footage is shocking, but it proved vital in helping us bring a successful prosecution.

“Thanks to this security footage, along with diligent and methodical police work, this dangerous individual will be off the streets for a long time.”

William, from Barking, east London, was arrested on August 4, 2022 and later pleaded guilty to two counts of grievous bodily harm with intent and dangerous driving.

On Thursday he was sentenced to seven years in prison at the Old Bailey.

He was banned from driving for five years after his release.
