At the 2024 Met Gala, Gabrielle Union had her daughter Kaavia in mind. In an interview with People on the Met Gala red carpet, the 51-year-old actress and activist revealed that this breathtaking mermaid dress was inspired by her 5-year-old child.

Union attended the Met Gala with husband Dwyane Wade on Monday night, marking their fifth appearance together. She said: “She inspired me to do this. She’s a water baby. She loves water. And she said, ‘Mommy, you look like a mermaid!'”

The Bring It On actress shined in a high-neck Michael Kors dress. The stunning dress was a cascading ombré pattern of lilac, green and teal. Meanwhile, Union’s hair was brushed back in a beehive style, accented with a silver star and hoop earrings.

Despite her fondness for the red carpet, Union admitted that walking into a room full of stars from many industries can be scary. She also said it can be a little nerve-wracking if someone doesn’t know everyone at the designated person.
