Driver allegedly ran a stop sign and ended up in jail for meth – Douglas Now

A Douglas man was jailed and later released after being arrested for possession of illegal drugs and giving a false name to police charges.

According to an incident report from the sheriff’s office, a detective was working in the Oak Park community when he spotted a gray Ford Focus speeding on Lacey Avenue. The car failed to stop at the stop sign at Waterford and Chadwick streets. As a result, the detective stopped the Focus at the intersection of Waterford and Highway 221.

During the stop, the driver stated his name was Wilmar Maldonado-Mendez. He gave the detective consent to search the car, the report states. During the search, the detective located a small amount of suspected methamphetamine. He was arrested and transported to prison.

While the investigation was still ongoing, officers discovered his real name was Wilmar Mendez-Samayoa, 29, of Douglas. He was charged with possession of methamphetamine and giving a false name and false information to police. Méndez-Samayoa was imprisoned and later released.
