The CPD sends a message to parents with the TB.ONE operation

“Tips are not snitches.”

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – Columbus Police Chief Joseph Daughtry said they are turning up the heat on crime in the city for everyone, including parents.

That’s the slogan used by the Columbus Police Department as part of its new Operation TB.ONE.

It means Take Back Our Neighborhood.

This operation was activated hours after the SWAT team arrested two brothers, Jaqualon Kelley and Jatylon Kelley, for possession of stolen firearms and drugs.

The CPD even brought in their mother.

“We brought their mother here for questioning because if we find out the parents are hiding these guns when the police arrive, we will charge the parents as well. This has to stop,” Daughtry said.

Columbus Police Chief Joseph Daughtry said people are starting to trust his officers with confidential information, like that which led to the Kelley brothers’ arrest.

“We get tips. People call us to tip us, and we use that to our advantage,” Daughtry said.

Daughtry said the CPD is ramping up its strength and focus.

“We are targeting these areas strongly and aggressively. And I meant targeting where our shots are taking place. We have increased patrols in these areas. We are carrying out more traffic checks in these areas. We make it hot. And I want the criminal element to know it’s going to be hot,” Daughtry said.
