ABILENE, Texas (BCH Sports) – The Abilene High Eagles are sending three players in two events to the Region I-5A tournament this week.

Noah Morris came out strong and won the district tournament to keep his season alive.

He is joined at the regional tournament by the girls’ doubles team of Allie Dunn and Abby Bryan, who finished second at district to earn their spot.

All three are ready to start the regional tournament.

Abilene High head coach Stacy Bryan said, “It’s about getting to the top at the right time, and these three did that. They happen to think they could win, and they believe they can win, and then they put it all together at the right time.

Allie Dunn said, “We weren’t ranked, so no one expected Abby and I to make it this far.”

Abby Bryan said, “Ranked doesn’t mean anything. I feel like you really have to do this…it doesn’t mean anything. It just matters who tries the most and who concentrates the most in the match. That’s exactly what we did.

Noah Morris said, “I competed against a group of higher level competitors and won. And I kind of realize all the hard work that I’ve finally paid off. The plan is to take first or second place so you can go to state and become the top eight boys in all of Texas.

The Abilene High trio is joined by two Wylie mixed doubles teams in the Region I-5A tournament.

The team of Trevor Short and Hope Willis won the district title. Brandon Cowling and Kate Delgado head to Lubbock as the district’s second seed.

The two-day tournament begins on May 8 and ends on May 9.
