Chandler council to consider ordinances aimed at ending teen violence

The town of Chandler.

The Chandler City Council on Thursday is expected to consider taking a first step toward fining or even prosecuting property owners who let minors party with drugs and alcohol on their property.

The proposed ordinance specifies twice that the owner does not need to be present to be held liable.

The Chandler City Council’s action would aim to end teen violence, which was the topic of a recent listening session co-hosted by Chandler police.

Municipal code would define an unruly assembly as a threat to public peace, health and safety.

Landowners could only avoid consequences in cases of trespass. Penalties would be a civil citation or misdemeanor charge if you are caught harboring twice in six months.

The council is also expected to consider an ordinance banning brass knuckles for people under 21 after an effort at the state Capitol failed.
