A Ruston man was arrested last Sunday evening after being found in possession of a large amount of marijuana.

A Lincoln Parish sheriff’s deputy stopped a Ford F-250 truck for following too closely and obscured license plate Sunday evening on Interstate 20. As he approached the driver, the deputy detected the odor of marijuana from the vehicle.

Due to weather conditions, the traffic stop was moved to the Lincoln Parish Sheriff’s Office. Officers from the Lincoln Parish Narcotics Enforcement Team were called to the scene to assist. A search warrant was obtained and executed on the vehicle. A pound of marijuana was found inside.

Smith also said additional marijuana could be found inside his residence. Another search warrant was obtained and Smith’s residence on Arcadia Drive was searched. Two backpacks containing an assortment of THC edibles were seized.

Smith was booked into the Lincoln Parish Detention Center for possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.
