Video shows car spinning in air after crash in Phoenix

Officials with the Phoenix Police Department said the people inside the vehicle fled the scene after the crash.

PHOENIX — Officials with the Phoenix Police Department are searching for people who fled the scene of a wild car crash that was caught on video.

The crash happened shortly after 7:30 p.m. Monday near I-17 and Cactus Road.

Daniel Miller’s surveillance camera captured the entire incident. The video shows a car speeding down Cholla Street, jumping a curb and hitting the pole.

“The power goes out and then comes back with this scene, which takes place about two and a half hours later,” Miller said.

Miller said he was watching television in his living room, just a few hundred yards from where the accident happened.

“I heard a few screams and then I started feeling and hearing shaking,” Miller said. “I heard a bzz, some powder and a bright light throughout the house,” Miller said.

No one was injured, but Miller said he is still in shock that he lived to tell the story.

“He could have jumped over that wall and hit me,” Miller said. “It scared me. I was shaking.”

This may have been the scariest accident, but Miller said it certainly wasn’t the first.

“I hear screaming every day,” Miller said. “It’s a common occurrence here.”

He set up cameras outside his house to capture moments like this.

“I get a lot of images,” Miller said. “Every day there are a few people doing donuts here and they’re going 45.55 mph. Sometimes faster on this road.”

No arrests have been made, Phoenix police said, and the crash remains under investigation. It’s unclear if anyone was injured in the crash.

Miller said he has tried to request speed bumps in the past, but was unsuccessful.

He hopes the city of Phoenix sees the video of this most recent crash and does something to reduce the problem.

“I really think we need change. It’s going to be worse the next time I know, it’s only going to get worse,” Miller said.

Phoenix police told 12News they are investigating the crash. The driver fled before the police arrived. No arrests have been made.
