Man shocked by squalid state of University of Nigeria hostel room

X user Justus, who identifies himself as LordJustusN on X.com, has expressed dismay over the deplorable state of a hostel, Eni Njọkụ Hostel, at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka.

Justus revealed that he went to the hostel to inspect the room his cousin was assigned to, but found himself in terrible conditions.

Sharing a video, he wrote: “My cousin is supposed to resume his studies at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN). He paid for the hostel and I went there today to check it out.

“That’s what I saw. Eni Njọkụ Hostel. When I asked, they told me that it’s not pigs that live there. I don’t know who to curse, but you are cursed!

“Lol, let me shock you: when I arrived to check my cousin’s room, it was locked, while others were open.

“When I asked the students in the adjacent room who provided the keys, they said it was locked because the room was reserved for student union officials. Which means it’s the best”

Reacting to this, several students and alumni shared their own horrific experiences of living in the hostel.

One boys are messy.

“That room you see could end up holding up to 14 guys. I usually wondered how they survived in those hostels.

Emma.Ai, who identifies as #EmarhNFT, wrote: “I remember the time when I wanted to get admission into UNN Nsukka.

“I stayed at a friend’s house for two days and told myself that nothing would ever force me to study at this university.

“I intentionally failed the entrance exam.”

Chidozie, who writes under the name #okorochidozie1 on X.com, said: “I agree with you. This is the worst hostel in UNN, especially on the ground floor.

“My first year I lived there and I knew what you were talking about. However, it’s worse now.

“I stayed in my room for just a month and then left to stay with a friend on the 4th floor.

“We remodeled the room, contributed money, changed the curtains, repainted the room and put down a floor mat. We have made it conducive to life.

“You see these dilapidated rooms. It is mainly first year students who stay there. Some rooms even have air conditioning. UNN needs to do better when it comes to student welfare.
