Man filmed repeatedly littering at Albuquerque property

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – A serial litterer caught on camera is causing a lot of frustration for an Albuquerque property owner who said the person keeps dumping trash on his property and gets away with it. KRQE News 13 has the surveillance footage.

“He clearly doesn’t know he’s being filmed,” said David Edwards, owner of the property.

Not once, not twice, but three times in about a month: Edwards filmed a man walking onto his property near Pennsylvania Street and I-40 in broad daylight, brazenly throwing all kinds of trash and debris and left.

“Usually we are there during working hours, but this individual has left outside of those hours, so I get a notification and I can see him doing it, but we are not there to intervene at that time” , Edwards said.

The illegal dumper struck twice on April 20 and again on May 4. Fed up, Edwards filed a police report after the third incident.

“My reaction was mainly due to his attitude, you know, it was so casual, like it was his own property. And then something too, the half unloading and then walking away and dropping the stuff, that really bothered me too, just because it shows even more disregard in one way or another ” Edwards said.

During his multiple visits, the man dropped an assortment of household debris: such as a garden fence, folding chairs, a pedestal fan, a filing cabinet, carpet and old wood.

Even today, days after the last littering incident, there is still trash on the property. Edwards said he was concerned about whether the Albuquerque Police Department (APD) would follow through because it is not a high-priority crime. “In some ways, the expectations for ODA are so low that I don’t expect anything,” Edwards said. “But at the same time, you know, I think the mayor and the city are trying to address some of these issues. these small crimes as well as the bigger ones, of course.

Edwards managed to film the man’s license plate and sent it along with the videos to the police: “You know, usually with security cameras, there’s always something, like you don’t never get the information: it’s blurry or it’s, you know, too dark. or whatever, but we were very lucky this time to be able to get a clear idea of the license plate number.

However, he still wonders what the police will be able to do: “A few months ago, someone tried to break into a car and we also captured their license plate and video of them doing so. to do so and submitted a police report, but nothing. was born out of this, and it seems like an even bigger crime than this, so I’m really curious as a citizen of Albuquerque what our expectations should be.

“Although small, what happened is very clear. You know, they can see who he is, they can see what he’s done, and so there’s really no ambiguity,” Edwards said.

He said that ultimately he just wanted an apology: “My ideal solution would be for him to just understand that his actions affect other people.” We’ve had to clean up his trash three times already, so it would be nice for him to realize that his actions have consequences.
