Robert De Niro Con programming: films, personal items, activations

Tribeca has revealed the lineup for its three-day “De Niro Con” celebration in honor of festival co-founder Robert De Niro.

“De Niro Con,” taking place June 14-16 during the 2024 Tribeca Festival, will feature screenings of 13 of De Niro’s films, often accompanied by conversations with his collaborators; an exhibition featuring never-before-seen items from De Niro’s personal archives, as well as activations and fan experiences inspired by the film.

Films screened include the world premiere of A Bronx Tale: the original One Man Showintroduced Chazz Palminteri; Jackie Brownfollowed by a conversation with director Quentin Tarantino and De Niro; Analyze thisfollowed by a conversation with De Niro and Billy Crystal, moderated by Whoopi Goldberg; Silver Linings Playbook followed by a conversation with director David O. Russell; New York, New Yorkpresented by Kathrine Narducci; The good shepherdpresented by John Turturro; The Freedmen followed by a conversation with screenwriter Nicholas Pileggi, moderated by Alfonso Gomez-Rejon; The deer hunterpresented by Christopher Walken; Meet the parents, presented by Ahmed Ahmed; and projections of The Godfather II, Raging Bull And Taxi driver.

As previously announced, the festival will also include a 50th anniversary screening of Mean streets, followed by a conversation with De Niro and Martin Scorsese, moderated by Nas. There will also be a conversation between De Niro and French artist JR.

Throughout the Tribeca Festival, fans will be able to visit a career-spanning exhibit and immersive installation titled De Niro is an icon, which will include more than 300 items from De Niro’s personal archives, including rare photos, annotated scripts, costumes, research materials and storyboards. The exhibition will also present the short film DeNiro, New York.

And “De Niro Con” will include movie-inspired activations such as Max Cady’s prison tattoo parlor from Cape Fear, where fans can get tattoos, real or temporary; Travis Bickle’s bedroom Taxi driver; and the Meet the parents polygraph test. There will also be a trivia night and hero sandwich contest for fans.

“I can’t think of a better way to celebrate the 80th birthday of Robert De Niro, my dear friend and co-conspirator for the past 35 years, than by throwing a big party for his fellow New Yorkers,” said the co-founder of Tribeca. and CEO Jane Rosenthal. “From conversations with legends like Martin Scorsese, Quentin Tarantino and David O. Russell to fan experiences, this will be a truly historic weekend as we pay tribute to a great talent.”

Billy Crystal added: “Robert De Niro is a cinema icon. He is one of my closest friends and working with him was one of the greatest experiences of my career. I’m really excited to pay tribute to him and his fantastic career in June.

The fan event, originally designed to coincide with De Niro’s 80th birthday on August 17, 2023, was first announced during the 2023 Tribeca Festival, in a private, star-studded ceremony at Tribeca Grill, and is expected take place from September 29. -October. January 1, 2023. But it was postponed to April 2024 due to last year’s writers’ and actors’ strikes. Earlier this year, “De Niro Con” was further delayed to coincide with the 2024 Tribeca Festival.
