She didn’t have to travel far to buy food.

A Michigan woman known as the “roof ninja” spent the last year living inside a popular grocery store.

Contractors hired to work on the roof of the Family Fare supermarket in Midland, Michigan, were shocked to find an extension leading to the secret living space on April 23.

When they entered the space, workers discovered a fully furnished living space furnished with a mini-office, flooring, a pantry stocked with food and a plant indoor.

“They were like ‘OMG, someone lives in this sign,'” Brennon Warren, public relations officer for the Midland Police Department, told the Midland Daily News.

Police were eventually called to evict the 34-year-old, telling her she needed to find somewhere else to live.

It’s unclear how the woman got to the rooftop house, or how she evaded arrest during the alleged year she lived there.

Officers offered the unconventional squatter several resources, including housing assistance, but she refused any assistance.

“I’ve never seen anything like this before in my career,” Warren added. “She came home”

She did not work for the supermarket but had a job, according to the newspaper.

Police also believe she had access to a car.

She was unable to enter the store, but management agreed to remove the furniture from the roof and return it to the woman.

Family Fare operates nearly 100 stores in seven Midwestern states, with the majority located in Michigan, but also in North and South Dakota, Iowa, Nebraska, Minnesota and Wisconsin.

No criminal charges have been filed.

Members of the Camden Art Cafe, a “standalone cafe in the heart of Camden”, had occupied the York & Albany gastropub in protest for the “victims of gentrification” and the country’s high-speed railway, H2S.

A court eventually ordered the group to leave while the remaining squatters held on until locksmiths and bailiffs rushed into the building on April 22, according to The Standard.
