Dead whale caught on bow of cruise ship in Brooklyn

A cruise ship in Brooklyn Harbor reported a dead whale clinging to the bow of the ship on May 4.

Authorities say the whale measured approximately 44 feet.

Sei whales are an endangered species typically found in deeper waters, away from shore.

The whale has since been towed to New Jersey and is undergoing bone and tissue sampling, which will help biologists determine the official cause of death.

East Coast mariners are encouraged to slow the speed of their vessels, remain vigilant and report any sightings of injured whales or marine animals.
