Area high school baseball and softball teams participating in the Stop DWI Classic

CLINTON – Ten schools from the Tri-Valley League and Center State Conference in Section III will compete this weekend in the second Oneida County Stop DWI Baseball and Softball Classic at Hamilton College.

The baseball and softball teams from Rome Free Academy and Utica’s Thomas R. Proctor High School will face off Friday in the event’s opening games at 4:30 p.m.

Rome Free Academy is 8-5 in softball with back-to-back wins after snapping a four-game losing streak while Proctor is 3-11. Rome Free Academy defeated Proctor 13-5 in Rome in April.

The Proctor baseball team is 11-2 with a 10-game winning streak after sophomore Josh Martinez pitched a no-hitter Wednesday in a 6-0 win at Oneida. Rome Free Academy is 8-5 this spring with wins in their last three games. Friday’s game will be the first of two meetings during the regular season for the teams scheduled to play a postponed game Wednesday in Rome.
