Modern Japanese-inspired restaurant Mui to open at Pike & Rose

Mui, a modern Japanese-inspired restaurant owned by IVEA Restaurant Group, is expected to open this winter in the Pike & Rose neighborhood of North Bethesda, Federal Realty Investment Trust announced Thursday.

Federal Realty, owner of Pike & Rose, said in a statement that the 8,505-square-foot restaurant will open at 967 Rose Ave. The site is the former home of The Block Foodhall, which closed its doors at the end of April after weeks of speculation.

Stuart Biel, senior vice president of Federal Realty, welcomed Mui to the upscale 24-acre neighborhood packed with residents, restaurants, shopping and entertainment venues.

“Our highly amenitized neighborhood is a popular destination for foodies and shoppers in North Bethesda and the community at large, and we are excited to share this new dining experience,” he said in the release.

The restaurant will offer non-traditional Japanese dishes as well as traditional kaiseki, sushi, omakase from Japan and seafood and meats cooked on a Robata grill, the announcement states. Translated as “I’ll leave it to you,” omakase features interaction between chef and diners, with the chef presenting selected sushi specialties.

Mui will also offer a drinks menu including agave, scotch and sake as well as champagne, wine and cocktails.

“With its vibrant environment, Pike & Rose is the perfect setting for Mui’s first restaurant,” Mui’s Edward Wong said in the release.
