Nessel, a women-owned healthcare furniture company designed by working mothers for working mothers, seeks to improve lives and keep communities safe and supported through innovative design and creating homes appropriate so that breastfeeding team members do not have to choose between work and family.

“This project represents the best of who we are and what we want to be: an industry thought leader who continues to be a catalyst for positive change and creating inclusive environments for all members of the industry. “team,” said Cara Herzog, chief diversity, equity and equity officer. responsible for inclusion. “We are incredibly proud of the progress we have made and look forward to what the future holds for women and mothers in manufacturing.” »

Southwire first heard about Nessel during valued nonprofit partner Women in Manufacturing (WiM)’s annual Moms in Manufacturing virtual conference in 2021. The multi-year project included key processes to ensure that the implementation was scalable. Southwire and Nessel set out to create a global corporate lactation policy, design standard lactation rooms to enable consistent layouts across all locations, provide leadership training on the PUMP Act, provide training maintenance for ongoing support and much more.

“It’s organizations like Southwire and Nessel that are leading change to provide fairer, safer and more comfortable experiences for women in manufacturing,” said Allison Grealis, president and founder of WiM. “It’s exciting to see their efforts translate into real impact for Southwire team members, and WiM is proud to see organizations like Southwire drive meaningful change through the opportunities we provide.”

Additionally, a project plan was developed to ensure management support, assess organizational needs, leverage a multi-phase implementation schedule, and create a series of resources to prepare, manage, and support implementation. implemented on all sites.

“Good companies see a problem and solve it with immediate, short-term solutions. Large companies see a problem as an opportunity, creating programs and policies to address the underlying issues that create the problem in the first place,” said Nessel CEO Stephanie Boms. “In this way, these companies stand out, leading the charge with real organizational change that supports long-term sustainable success.” »

This project distinguishes Southwire as an industry leader that values inclusive spaces. The rooms created go beyond simple compliance and rely on inclusive arrangements, which allow team members to fully express themselves at work.

“The partnership between Southwire and Nessel demonstrates our shared commitment to fostering an environment where respect and inclusion are at the forefront of everything we do,” said Guyton Cochran, Chief Financial Officer. “Investments like our Breastfeeding Standard are not only the right thing to do, they are also the smart thing to do. We want to be an employer of choice and create a culture of inclusion that allows all individuals to feel supported at work.
