Cristiano Ronaldo has been linked with a shock move to a Champions League club this summer.

Cristiano Ronaldo has been linked with a shock move to a Champions League club this summer.

When Ronaldo left Manchester United by mutual consent in November 2021 and took a pioneering step towards the Saudi Pro League, it appeared that the striker’s career in Europe had come to an end.

Ronaldo has been as prolific as ever in Saudi Arabia, scoring a hat-trick in his last outing for Al Nassr against Al Wehda, taking him to 47 goals for the season in 46 appearances in all competitions.

And, according to reports, the 39-year-old’s continued relentlessness in front of goal has caught the attention of Europe’s most in-form team.

According to the journalist Alhazza MutabRonaldo has attracted interest from Bayer Leverkusen.

Indeed, the new Bundesliga champions, who miraculously remain on track for an unbeaten season in all competitions, would like to recruit the five-time Ballon d’Or this summer.

Ronaldo was reportedly recommended by Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso, who played alongside the striker when both men were at Real Madrid.

It is unclear whether Ronaldo would be open to a return to Europe, with the player having raised the level of the Saudi Pro League since arriving there.

In January, when asked about the level of the Saudi league, Ronaldo replied: “To be honest, I think the Saudi League is not worse than the French league, in my opinion.

“In (the) French championship, I think there are two, three teams with a good level. In Saudi Arabia now, I think it’s more competitive. They can say what they want, that’s just my opinion and i played it for a year so i know what i’m talking about.

“But I think at the moment we are better than (the) French championship, we are still improving.”
