Scorpions reveal Matthias Jabs injuries that led to tour cancellation

Remember last week when German heavy metallers Scorpions announced the cancellation of their September tour? The only reason given at the time was an “injury” that one of the band members accidentally suffered? Well, that band member was guitarist Matthias Jabs, and he’s finally shared a little more about what happened to him.

Jabs posted a rather cheerful photo of himself in a wheelchair with a cast on his foot and hand on the group’s Facebook page. Yet he wore his happiness endearingly. His smile is what really gives him away. He began in German, followed by the English translation:

“Dear fans and friends, as you may have heard, I had a serious accident in my vacation rental home. I fell down the 16 steps of the staircase and broke my left little finger twice as well as my left heel,” he revealed. “I underwent surgeries on both hands and both feet by the best specialists I could find in Hamburg. Now it’s time to heal and start physical rehabilitation for a speedy recovery.”

“I will do everything to be able to play guitar on stage again as soon as possible. I am sorry to announce that the September concerts will not take place, but I am very optimistic that we will see each other again very soon. Rock n Roll forever, Kind regards Matthias.”

The band initially hinted at the cancellation in late August with a vague statement, noting that the dates didn’t actually start until two weeks after the announcement.

“We deeply regret, and especially Matthias Jabs, that due to the accident of our friend and lead guitarist of the SCORPIONS, the five concerts of our German tour cannot take place in September as planned and we will work closely with the tour organizer to announce new information as soon as possible. We ask all our fans, all rock believers in Germany, who were looking forward to the concerts with us, to show understanding.”

The dates, all of which were in their home country of Germany, have not yet been rescheduled. It’s a relief to know what’s going on with Jabs and to see that he’s getting better and better. I hope he can get out of his casts soon!
