Hey, green thumbs! Are you ready to get started with gardening? To help you get started, there will be many plant sales happening in the coming days and weeks across Southern Colorado.

Many of these places also offer advice and can answer any questions you have about spring gardening. And as Mother’s Day approaches, there will be no shortage of gift ideas.

Canon City

Currently running until June 9

Desert Canyon Farm, located at 1270 Field Ave., is currently holding its 2024 Farm Open House and Farm Stand Plant Sale Saturday through Thursday (closed Friday). In addition to purchasing plants, you can also bring a picnic. More information here.

Colorado Springs

THE Horticultural Art Society is hosting “huge spring plant sales” with new selections every week. Sales take place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday. It’s at HAS Cottage Backyard, 224 Mesa Rd., near Monument Valley Park. Find the list of plants and more information here.

THE UCCS Farm is hosting its annual plant sale from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. to benefit the university farm. This year they will offer “organic, heirloom and rare varieties of tomatoes, peppers, beans, herbs and flowers grown at UCCS.” Get more information here.

Cheyenne Mountain Zoo is hosting its annual plant sale on Thursday, May 16 and Friday, May 17 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday, May 18 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. All proceeds will be donated to the zoo, located at 4250 Cheyenne Mountain Zoo Rd. More information here.

Plant Select is partnering with Colorado garden centers to host conversations with “Colorado Master Gardeners” about “water-friendly gardening, native plants, pollinators and more.” You can also purchase Plant Select plants. Supporters of Horticultural Education (SHED) and Master Gardeners of Pueblo County will host a plant sale featuring native plants, perennials, vegetables, annuals and more local plants that will “thrive in the Pueblo region.” The event will take place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Fine Arts Building at the Colorado State Fairgrounds, 1001 Beulah Ave. Get more information here.
