You’ll Never Believe Who Whoopi Goldberg Gave a ‘Sister Act 3’ Cameo

Whoopi Goldberg finally met the Pope and said he “seems to be a bit of a fan.”

The EGOT winner took a break Wednesday from her co-hosting duties on “The View” and regaled Jimmy Fallon on “The Tonight Show” about her decade-long attempt to meet Pope Francis. When asked if he was really a fan, Goldberg cheekily replied: “‘Sister Act,’ hello?”

The actor even claimed that she offered Francis a cameo in “Sister Act 3,” which has remained in pre-production since 2020. Although she joked that Francis said “he would see what her time,” Goldberg wasn’t joking about his faith.

“I wanted to thank him,” she told Fallon about finding a date. “I’ve been trying to meet him for about 10 years, but every time I said, ‘OK, we’re going to do this,’ it felt like I was stepping into something and I couldn’t do it. , they would cancel the appearance.

“But (this time),” Goldberg continued, “I stayed really good and had no problems.”

The meeting was commemorated by a photo that Fallon posted Wednesday — which showed Goldberg handing Francis a vinyl copy of the “Sister Act” soundtrack. Although a career change for the 87-year-old is unlikely, Goldberg said he will be in his good graces forever.

“I really like this man,” she told Fallon, “because when people talk about whoever you want, that’s supposed to be the guy you talk to. I like him and he has annoyed a lot of people because he has said things that people don’t think are right, but I do.

Francis is a relatively progressive pope, and since his inauguration in 2013 he has comforted migrants in refugee camps, denounced climate change disproportionately affecting the poor – and claimed no authority over same-sex relationships.

“You are the pope,” Goldberg explained Wednesday. “You say, ‘Look, we welcome everyone. We want everyone to be at our party. We want everyone. You know? “We’re not going to judge you. Only God judges you.

Meanwhile, it’s unclear if she’s still actively preparing for “Sister Act 3.” Goldberg claimed in 2023 that she “just couldn’t do it” without Maggie Smith, who played the stern mother superior with a heart of gold in the first two films – and who is now 89.

The cult classic franchise grossed nearly $200 million worldwide in the early 1990s.
