UNLV summer programs offer a wide range of learning opportunities

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Connecting campuses is the key to the University of Nevada, Las Vegas’ “Young Rebels” summer program, officials say, which allows young people to imagine themselves participating in college life .

“We call them our future rebels,” said Devan Harris, early outreach coordinator. “They would have the opportunity to interact with current faculty and students at a very young age.”

Campus officials say the program helps make these students feel welcome and avoid what’s known as “summer creep,” ensuring young people stay engaged.

Officials say there are more than 30 camps to choose from, including STEM, robotics, 3D gaming and AI camps. If the final frontier is a student’s specialty, “Camp Cosmos” is offered to astronomy enthusiasts.

Camp officials said that more recently, camps on philosophy and women’s empowerment have become offerings. In 2023, students learned the ins and outs of the Las Vegas Strip for three weeks, immersing themselves in information about the famous Bellagio Fountains and the High Roller. All offers are adapted to help parents who have to work.

UNLV’s summer offerings also include sports activities. More information can be found on the UNLV Summer Camp website.
