Pochettino ready to leave Chelsea: ‘It’s not a problem’

Mauricio Pochettino has claimed it would “not be the end of the world” if he left Chelsea this summer. The Blues boss has been in the hot seat for much of the season as the club struggles. Despite spending over $1 billion on new players since 2022, Chelsea have failed to even get close to the top four in the standings.

Nonetheless, the club has shown glimpses of positive play in recent weeks. This rise essentially began as Chelsea lost 2-0 to Aston Villa on April 27. Although in a hole, the Blues hit back with two late goals to grab a point in the West Midlands. After the draw, Pochettino’s side went on to dominate Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham by a combined score of 7-0.

These consecutive shutouts were certainly noticed by Todd Boehly, the club’s American owner. Boehly recently suggested that both displays showed his team may have finally turned a corner. While Pochettino’s future with the club has been debated, Boehly’s comments appear to allay those concerns.

Mauricio Pochettino exit: manager suggests he could be unhappy at Chelsea

The Argentine coach, however, once again fueled the fire regarding his potential departure on Friday. Pochettino told reporters at a press conference that all parties involved must be happy to continue with the club. “If we are happy, that’s perfect,” Pochettino said.

“But it’s not just whether the owners are happy or the sporting directors happy… You have to ask us too, because maybe (we) say ‘we’re not happy’ and we accept the situation and we have to part ways .”

“It will not be the first time that the technical staff decides not to continue at the end of the season. But in this sense, it’s always the opposite, it’s always the owners or the sports directors.

Pochettino ended his comments on the situation by saying he had failed to achieve certain goals this season. “Maybe we’re not happy because we came here with a job to do and ultimately it didn’t happen,” the coach continued. “I’m not saying I’m not happy. If we separate, it’s no problem, it won’t be the end of the world.”

The Blues could soon have to face financial sanctions

The coach’s comments are certainly surprising, especially since he just received public support from Boehly. Nonetheless, Pochettino appears content with potentially leaving the prestigious position at the end of the season. In addition to the problems on the field, the Blues also have problems off the field.

The club’s financial problems undoubtedly loom. Chelsea have reported massive losses in consecutive seasons and could very well face possible sanctions in the Premier League. It was also recently revealed that the Blues may not be able to comply with UEFA spending rules if they qualify for a European tournament.

Alongside these financial problems, there are also stability issues within the club. Boehly and company essentially changed the entire team in two years at the helm. Not only is the team relatively new and bloated, but the owners have been impatient with their coaches.

In fact, Pochettino is the fifth different manager to have taken charge of at least one Premier League match since Boehly entered the fray. Even though two of these coaches have become interim, there is certainly chaos behind the scenes at the club. Pochettino may not be willing to deal with this chaos beyond the current season.
