Man United ‘offer’ captain Bruno Fernandes in stunning swap deal

Manchester United have reportedly offered captain Bruno Fernandes a stunning swap deal this summer.

Fernandes, who has 10 goals and seven assists in the Premier League this season, appeared to hint a move away from United could happen this summer when he said: “Obviously it’s not just up to me, is this not ?” .

And Spanish newspaper Nacional, via Football365, claims the Portugal international could be used in an almighty swap deal.

The outlet claims United have proposed a swap that would see Fernandes head to Barcelona and top target Frenkie de Jong move to Old Trafford.

United courted the Dutch midfielder throughout the 2022 summer window with no results and eventually signed Casemiro for £70million.

De Jong remains at Barcelona but the report claims he is on Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s list of ‘targets’.

But as they do not want to pay the £77.5million valuation for the former Ajax player, they claim they are prepared to use Fernandes as a bargaining chip in a deal.

Their proposal is to pay a £17million fee for De Jong, on top of including Fernandes in the transfer.

It is suggested that Fernandes would ‘give Barca the nod with his eyes closed’ and would even be willing to lower his salary to represent the Blaugrana.

De Jong played under Erik ten Hag at Ajax and the United boss recently admitted he was the signing needed to implement his preferred style of play.

Asked about Gary Neville’s pursuit of De Jong, Ten Hag said: “It would have been Frenkie de Jong and Casemiro. (They would) have been really connected with each other. They would have been really complementary with each other. the other absolutely.

“He is a typical player if you want to play the Ajax way. You need this type of player.
